Description

This original illustration features President Lincoln chatting with a Union soldier in front of a tent. Lincoln is depicted standing and holding a rolled up newspaper under his left arm and a pair of glasses in his right hand. The soldier is depicted in his military uniform, equipped with a pistol and saber. Another soldier can be seen standing in the background. The caption under the image reads, "At his summer residence during the Civil War, the Soldier's Home near Washington, President Lincoln often chatted informally with his guard soldiers encamped there."
