Description

a-b) This pair of gold and black First Lieutenant epaulets was worn by John E. Wilkins of Terre Haute, Indiana, during his military service in the Civil War from April 20, 1861 to July 22, 1865. According to Wilkins' diary, he served as "1st Lt Co A- 11th Indiana Infty zouaves. & 1st Lt & Adjutant. 16th Indiana vol Infty."
