Description

This color print is a reproduction of the illustration by John Tenniel and the poem "Abraham Lincoln" by Tom Taylor originally published in the May 6,1865, issue of "Punch, or the London Charivari" to express the widespread sympathy in Britain for the grief felt in the United States after Lincoln's assassination. The image shows a weeping Columbia seated and bent over the funeral bier of President Abraham Lincoln. Britannia is standing in front of Columbia laying a wreath on the bier. The illustration and the poem are shown on a purple patterned background. The title and publisher's information are printed in the lower margin.
