- Letter, 32.5 cm, handwritten in ink on mourning stationery, from Daggett to his mother, written at 10 A.M. the day of Lincoln's death. Relates the events of the assassination, his role carrying Lincoln to the Petersen House, and the attack on William Seward. Relates the murder of a 'traitor' by a Union soldier after he celebrated the death of Lincoln; 'my seven shooter is in my pocket and I shall not fail to use it should I hear any such remark.' Addendum at 3 P.M. April 16 mentions funeral arrangements, relics from Lincoln's death, and rumors of Booth's capture. Envelope, 10 cm.
