That is understandable, since Lincoln only visited the state once. However, Michigan authors and historians have established a rich Lincoln heritage. During the past seventy-five years, Michiganians have determined the authenticity of Lincoln's birth cabin, explained how Lincoln became the only president to receive a patent for an invention and convinced a Russian sculptor to create a statue of Lincoln for their Ypsilanti schoolhouse. In recognition of the bicentennial of Abraham Lincoln's birth, Michigan History magazine has sponsored this anthology of Lincoln stories with a Michigan twist. With two exceptions, these articles have appeared elsewhere-although most are long out of print. Read them for the first time or once again. Regardless, each article in Michigan Remembers Lincoln helps us better understand the Lincoln story.
