Lincoln" on behalf of Mary Todd Lincoln. Probably written on Saturday, April 15 prior to the funeral on April 19. Letter is not written on mourning stationery.; Eliza Lytle "Lily" Macalester Berghmans Laughton (1832-1891) was the daughter of Charles Macalester, a financier and philanthropist of Philadelphia. On December 27, 1860 she married Alfred D. Bergmanns (1832-1872), the secretary to the Belgian Legation in Washington, D.C. Madame Berghmans later married J. Scott Laughton who died in 1878.
