Description

This print is a reproduction of a painting by artist Reynolds Jones depicting a committee of the Republican National Convention handing Abraham Lincoln the official letter of notification that he had been elected to be the Republican presidential candidate in the election of 1860. The event took place in the parlor of the Lincoln family home in Springfield, Illinois. Attached to the reverse of the print is a sheet of explanatory text written by Jay Monaghan, former Illinois historian. The art work was commissioned by the Chicago and Illinois Midland Railway Company to be used as calendar art. This print has possibly been cut from the 1954 calendar.
