Description

This jumbo-sized color postcard features the two-story home of the Abraham Lincoln family in Springfield, Illinois, at the corner of Eighth and Jackson Streets. The Lincolns lived in this house from 1844 to 1861. Three of their four sons were born there, and it was where he learned of his nomination as a presidential candidate. The siding is painted a sandy beige color with dark shutters at the windows. A flag flies above the house on the flagpole anchored near the corner of the porch. The postcard reverse is divided. Narrative text is printed on the left side. The number 2135 is printed along the bottom edge near the middle. Part of the Lincoln Financial Foundation Collection, courtesy of the Indiana State Museum
