Description
This is a reproduction of an 1862 recruitment poster in the collection of the New York Historical Society. At the top is the heading: "RECRUITS WANTED!" Below appears an allegorical etching of Lady Liberty holding a shield and carrying an American flag. An eagle is perched to her left. In the background appears a large ship on the proper right, and a train in the proper left. Below the image "HALLECK GUARD!" is printed in large letters, followed by the name, "Col. Elias Peissner". More details are given about the recruitment process in the next thirteen lines. In small print, "BAKER & GODWIN. Printers, Printing-House Square. cor Nassau and Spruce Streets, New York." is at the bottom. All the text on the poster is in red and blue, alternately. The image is etched in black ink. In very small print, at the bottom proper right appears "Courtesy: New York Historical Society, N.Y." and at the proper left, "Civil War Publishing Company".
