Description
This is a lithograph of a drawing by Thomas Worth. It portrays a young black man, in humble quarters, and ragged clothes, proudly tying the ascot of his dress shirt. He checks his appearance in a small chard of a mirror on his dresser. The open dresser drawer reveals no contents. A small bed is against the wall with a broken chair beside it. A violin is hung near the window and a portrait of President Abraham Lincoln is on the wall nearby. The title appears in the margin: "Preparing for Congress" Part of the Lincoln Financial Foundation Collection, courtesy of the Indiana State Museum
