Description
This drawing is a political cartoon depicting Presidents Abraham Lincoln and Lyndon B. Johnson standing in front of an easel studying a portrait together. Lincoln stands on the viewer's right of the easel and is dressed as an artist with a long white jacket and cap. He holds a palette in his left hand and a brush in his right hand. More brushes are in his top hat that is sitting upside-down beside him on the floor. On the viewer's left of the easel President Johnson is dressed in a suit and appears to be frowning as he gazes at the painting. Sketches are lying on the floor depicting Johnson wearing a cowboy hat. Lincoln looks at Johnson and thinks to himself, "Perhaps a beard would help. . ." The title of the cartoon, "Ugly. . .?" is written in blue pencil in the upper margin. The artist signature is parallel to Lincoln's left leg.
