Description
This cartoon depicts three separate portraits: George W. L. Bickley, Head of the Knights of the Golden Circle; John Wilkes Booth, the Assassin; and President Abraham Lincoln, the Martyr President. The three men are featured in separate boxes horizontally across the page; Lincoln's portrait is draped in black mourning cloth. Bickley is shown from the waist up, facing the viewer's left. Booth is in profile to the right, a hand in his coat. Lincoln's bust is shown in profile to the right as a memorial. Each portrait is labeled at the top, starting from the left, "Theory. Practice. Effect." Part of The Lincoln Financial Foundation Collection, courtesy of the Indiana State Museum
