Description

An original handcarved woodblock used for printing a head and shoulders portrait of President Abraham Lincoln probably for 1864 presidential campaign literature or post election publishing. This type of woodblock was used in the "Galley" which is a shallow tray for holding composed type in a 19th-century printing process. Two prints made using the woodblock are included with the acquisition. Part of the Lincoln Financial Foundation Collection, courtesy of the Indiana State Museum
