Description

This hand-colored lithograph, done from a sketch by A. E. Mathews, depicts soldiers in camp either standing or seated listening to the man standing on a raised platform in front of a makeshift table with an open book on it. The trees are bare so the scene is taking place during the late fall or winter. There are several tents with the one in the foreground labeled "Cap. Wade, 31st Reg. O. V. U.S.A." The tent to the speaker's left is labeled L. F. Drake, Chaplain, U. S. A. The title is printed in the bottom margin below the image.
