Description

This etching features a head and shoulders portrait of a beardless Abraham Lincoln done from a photograph taken of him on June 3, 1860, in Springfield, Illinois, not long after he was nominated as the Republican presidential candidate. Lincoln posed facing almost front with his head turned toward the viewer's right wearing a black coat and vest with a white button-down collared shirt and black bow tie. His eyeglasses cord rests diagonally across his chest. There are elements of shadow present on both sides of Lincoln's head above his shoulders. The artist's signature is written in pencil in the bottom right corner below the image and the publication information is in the bottom left corner.
