Description

This photographic print features a head and shoulders portrait of a beardless Abraham Lincoln done from a photograph taken of him on June 3, 1860, in Springfield, Illinois, not long after he was nominated as the Republican presidential candidate. Lincoln posed facing almost front with his head turned toward the viewer's right wearing a black coat and vest with a white button-down collared shirt and black bow tie. His eyeglasses cord rests diagonally across his chest. The words, "ABRAHAM LINCOLN'S PRESIDENTIAL CANDIDATE PHOTOGRAPH TAKEN June 3, 1860 IN SPRINGFIELD BY ALEXANDER HESLER." are printed in the lower left corner below the image, while, "FACSIMILE REPRODUCTION ESPECIALLY PRODUCED FOR UNITED STATES OF AMERICA 1976 BICENTENNIAL. COPYRIGHT 1975 - R. C. DePAUW, METAMORA, ILLINOIS 61548" is printed in the bottom right corner. Part of the Lincoln Financial Foundation Collection, courtesy of the Indiana State Museum
