Description

This drawing is an editorial cartoon that features a wounded soldier returning from Vietnam. He walks with a crutch under one arm, and carries a rucksack in the other hand as he travels across a land mass on a map labeled Vietnam. President Abraham Lincoln is depicted at the viewer's left looking down at the soldier. A quotation from President Lincoln's Second Inaugural Address printed in the upper right corner of the image reads" Let us strive on to finish the work we are in; to bind up the nation's wounds; to care for him who shall have borne the battle. . ." The artist handwritten signature and the year are in the bottom right corner of the drawing.
