Description

This woodcut engraving was printed in Harper's Weekly on December 3, 1864, pp. 776-777, in commemoration of President Lincoln's re-election to the presidency. The print features eight individual scenes that all relate to the freedoms provided by Lincoln's administration. The main scene, United We Stand, is in the upper center, and features Lincoln as he is warmly welcomed into office by a group of onlookers who cheer and take off their hats to the President. A large American flag billows behind him. The remaining images clockwise from the center are captioned "Thank God for Our Union Victories," "In Rebeldom," "On Board," "In the Field," "In Europe," and "Thank God for Maryland Freeing Her Slaves."
