Description

This is a color postcard of the “Lincoln Death Chair.” The front of the postcard features a color photographic image of a red cushioned chair with a shawl draped over the arm and a playbill on the floor. “Lincoln’s Death Chair, Greenfield Village” is printed at the bottom of the postcard. Information printed on the back identifies this as the chair Lincoln was sitting in and the shawl he worn the night he was assassinated. The image is from a display at Greenfield Village, Dearborn, Michigan. A handwritten note in blue ink from Dan McCarthy to E. R. Underwood of Forest Park, Illinois. The Dearborn, Michigan, postmark is dated June 21, 1966. Part of The Lincoln Financial Foundation Collection, courtesy of the Indiana State Museum.
