Description

This 20-page booklet was published for the purpose of collecting the thirty poster stamps to paste into the appropriate boxes on the pages. Each stamp illustrates the brief biographical text printed below the box where the specific stamp is to be pasted. Each stamp is a reproduction of one of the known photographs for which President Abraham Lincoln posed. The photographs and negatives used for the reproductions were from the Frederick Hill Meserve collection of Lincoln and Civil War photographs. The cover of the booklet features a photograph of President Lincoln and his son, Tad, looking at an album together. The second page has a photograph of Mr. Meserve and biographical text about him written by Carl Sandburg. The third page is a letter to the president of Lincoln Memorial University from Mr. Meserve. Tucked inside the booklet is a strip of three of the poster stamps, numbers 60, 78, and 56 from the Meserve Collection ready to be affixed to the appropriate boxes. A loose wrapper for the booklet serves as the title page on the front. The inside page has a statement reading "Three hundred copies of this edition of "This Is Abraham Lincoln" have been printed in April, 1941. Each copy is signed by the author." F. H. Meserve is handwritten in black ink below the statement.. Part of the Lincoln Financial Foundation Collection, courtesy of the Indiana State Museum
