Description
This jumbo-sized color postcard is a photograph of the reconstructed Saw and Grist Mill in New Salem State Park near Petersburg, Illinois. The original mill was built by James Rutledge and James Cameron in 1829 on the Sangamon river. Lincoln stranded his flatboat on the old mill dam which was his introduction to the village of New Salem. The postcard reverse is divided. Narrative text is printed on the left side. The number P7946 is printed along the top edge near the middle. Part of the Lincoln Financial Foundation Collection, courtesy of the Indiana State Museum
