Facts about this object

Abraham and Mary Lincoln were never photographed together. The eagle, flags, shield, olive branches, and stars that surround the Lincolns’ photographs attest to their status as president and first lady.

During the mid-nineteenth century, Americans collected carte-de-visite photographs of famous people and kept them in albums with pages specially designed to hold the small photograph cards.
