Description

This gold-colored plaster life mask depicts the full face of Abraham Lincoln done after the life mask taken of him by sculptor Leonard W. Volk in 1860 several months before Lincoln grew his beard. The sculptor covered Lincoln's face with a coat of plaster and pulled it off in one piece once the plaster had dried. The hair and eyes were added by the artist.
