Description

This watercolor on heavy textured paper was done by President Abraham Lincoln's great-granddaughter, Mary Lincoln Beckwith, also known as Peggy Beckwith. It features a small white building, possibly a church on the viewer's left. A smaller building can be seen behind a large tree on the viewer's right. Large hills can be seen in the background. The leaves on the trees appear to have changed to fall colors. Handwritten in pencil in the lower left corner are the artist's initials MLB and the words "Sandgate Way." Handwritten in pencil in the lower right corner is "Appx 1944." Part of the Lincoln Financial Foundation Collection, courtesy of the Indiana State Museum
