Description

This hand-colored lithograph features head and shoulders portraits of Abraham Lincoln and Hannibal Hamlin, Republican candidates in the 1860 presidential election. The edges of the print are lined by red curtains with gold trim and tassels. Abraham Lincoln's portrait is on the viewer's left. Both men are depicted clean-shaven and wearing black coats, vests, and bow ties. A patriotic eagle is depicted above the portraits holding arrows and a patriotic shield. Below the portraits, the men's names are written on a gold banner: "Hon. Abraham Lincoln, of Illinois / For President." and "Hon. Hannibal Hamlin, of Maine / For Vice President." The title, "THE REPUBLICAN BANNER FOR 1860." is printed in the bottom margin. Part of the Lincoln Financial Foundation Collection, courtesy of the Indiana State Museum
