Description

This pen and ink drawing of two buildings depicts Ford's Theatre draped in black mourning cloth on the viewer's left and the Petersen House on the viewer's right, both in Washington, D. C. President Lincoln, Mrs. Lincoln, and two friends were in the president's box at Ford's Theatre on the night of April 14, 1865, when John Wilkes Booth shot the president in the back of the head. The small room where President Lincoln was taken and later died was in the Petersen House, a boarding house across the street from Ford's Theatre.
