Description

This pen and ink illustration depicts the Court House in Petersburg, Illinois, where the 1846 Congressional Convention of the Whig Party was held. Abraham Lincoln was nominated for the Whig candidate for Representative. He was elected and served one term in Congress. Two men are seen sitting on a bench in front of the building. The buildings that sit in the background are smaller, and appear to be only one story. There are several bare trees in the foreground, and they are scattered around the buildings in various places. The artist's initials appear in the bottom right corner of the print. The entire book pdf can be viewed online at https: //ia802905.us.archive.org. This illustration appears on page 32 in the book.
