Description

This pen and ink illustration featuring the first home built when the Lincoln family moved from Indiana to Illinois is one of several illustrations done by C. M. Biggers for the book "The Lincoln Album : Life of the Preserver of the Union, the Liberator of a People, and the First American" published in 1907 by Hawkins Publishing Company, St. Louis, Missouri. Abraham helped his father build this small log cabin on the bank of the Sangamon River in March of 1830 when the family first arrived in Illinois. This print features a small one room log cabin positioned at a three quarter view. The cabin has only a single door in the front. No windows are visible from the angle at which the cabin is portrayed. There is a path that leads from the doorway. A tree stands to the right of the door, and a large bush is at the back right corner. Other trees and shrubbery stand in the background and off to the side of the cabin. The artist's initials appear in the bottom left corner of the print. The entire book pdf can be viewed online at https: //ia802905.us.archive.org. This illustration appears on page 20 in the book.
