Description

This pen and ink illustration, depicting the location of the Anderson Creek Ferry, is one of several illustrations done by C. M. Biggers for the book "The Lincoln Album : Life of the Preserver of the Union, the Liberator of a People, and the First American" published in 1907 by Hawkins Publishing Company, St. Louis, Missouri. Abraham Lincoln earned his first dollar by ferrying two men down Anderson Creek to meet a steamer in the middle of the Ohio River as a teenage youth. This print features the Anderson Creek to the viewer's right with small houses and stables in the background and to the viewer's left. The stables on the left are connected with fences, and sit a small distance back from the ledge that drops down into the pond. There is a path that leads into the distance alongside the stables, and a woman holds a small child's hand as they walk along on it. There are hills and trees in the distance, and the foliage seems to be slightly leaning to the right as though they are being blown by a breeze. The artist's signature appears in the bottom right corner of the print. The entire book pdf can be viewed online at https: //ia802905.us.archive.org. This illustration appears on page 18 in the book.
