Description

This pen and ink illustration, done from a photograph of Abraham Lincoln taken on June 3, 1860, in Springfield, Illinois, is one of several illustrations done by C. M. Biggers for the book "The Lincoln Album : Life of the Preserver of the Union, the Liberator of a People, and the First American" published in 1907 by Hawkins Publishing Company, St. Louis, Missouri. This print features a head and shoulders portrait of a beardless Abraham Lincoln facing toward the viewer's right. Only Lincoln's left eye can be seen - his left cheek and ear are not visible. Lincoln wears a dark jacket and vest, along with a white button-down collared shirt and a small black bow tie. His eyeglasses chain descends from the right collar of his shirt down to the inside of the left side of the vest. Elements of shadow are present above Lincoln's shoulders. The artist's signature, "C. M. Biggers" appears below Lincoln's left arm. The entire book pdf can be viewed online at https: //ia802905.us.archive.org. This illustration appears on page 23 in the book.
