Description

This pen and ink illustration, done from a photograph of President Abraham Lincoln taken on February 27, 1860, in New York, is one of several illustrations done by C. M. Biggers for the book "The Lincoln Album : Life of the Preserver of the Union, the Liberator of a People, and the First American" published in 1907 by Hawkins Publishing Company, St. Louis, Missouri. This print features a half-length portrait of a beardless Abraham Lincoln facing the viewer with his body turned toward the viewer's right. Lincoln wears a dark jacket, vest, white button-down collared shirt, and black bow tie. The use of shadow is present just above Lincoln's right shoulder. The artist's signature "C.M. Biggers" appears near the elbow area of Lincoln's left arm. The entire book pdf can be viewed online at https: //ia802905.us.archive.org. This illustration appears on page 21 in the book.
