Description

This pen and ink illustration done from a daguerreotype of Abraham Lincoln taken on October 27, 1854, in Chicago is one of several illustrations done by C. M. Biggers for the book "The Lincoln Album : Life of the Preserver of the Union, the Liberator of a People, and the First American" published in 1907 by Hawkins Publishing Company, St. Louis, Missouri. The illustration features a beardless Abraham Lincoln seated at a three quarter view with his head turned very slightly to his left while still facing the viewer. Lincoln wears a dark jacket, vest, and pants, along with a white button-down collared shirt and large bow tie. Lincoln's arms are slightly outstretched as he holds a newspaper, with the letters "ESS AND TRIBUNE" visible at the top. Elements of shadow are used around Lincoln's arms. The artist's signature "C.M. Biggers" appears beneath Lincoln's right arm. The entire book pdf can be viewed online at https://ia802905.us.archive.org.
