Description

This original illustration features a left profile portrait of President Abraham Lincoln. It was pasted to a mat on which handwritten lettering in black ink forms a border for the illustration. The lettering begins at the top left with Lincoln's birthdate 1809 and continues with a listing of so-called hardships and failures in his life ending in his loss in the Senate election of 1858. " Elected 16th President of the U.S.A. in 1860" is printed inside the border in the lower right corner. "Drawn from life-mask" with the artist's signature and logo are below that. Printer's markings in red and blue pencil and black ink are in the margins. This illustration was published in the February 12, 1970, issue of the Boston Herald-Traveler of Boston, Massachusetts.
