Description
This is a drawing of a political cartoon which was published in the Fort Wayne, Indiana, News-Sentinel in 1942. President Abraham Lincoln is depicted sitting on top of a tall monument on which is inscribed "LINCOLN" with a quotation attributed to him reading: "There is an important sense in which the government is distinct from the administration. One is perpetual; the other temporary and changeable. A man may be loyal to his government and at the same time oppose the peculiar principles and the methods of administration." Uncle Sam is depicted at the foot of the monument along with rays of illumination. The title is printed in the top margin. Handwritten in pencil in the top left corner of the reverse is a note with the cartoonist's name, name of the newspaper in which the cartoon was published, and the year of publication.
