Description
This is an ink drawing of a political cartoon by L.M. Glackens. The cartoon depicts Abraham Lincoln playing tennis with three other men, most likely other politicians. Lincoln is near the net and is about the hit the ball to the other team, while the three others stand alert with their rackets raised and ready for the play. One man is on Lincoln's team, and the two others are on the receiving side. A small boy watches the match from the opposite end of the court. The court is enclosed by a fence which is surrounded with trees and tall bushes. It is set in front of the U.S. Capitol building, visible in the background. The artist signed the print, "L.M. Glackens" in the bottom proper left corner. On the reverse side, there is a small illegible note that is handwritten on paper that has been glued to the object. Also the number "251" is handwritten largely in blue colored pencil and circled in the center of the piece. Part of the Lincoln Financial Foundation Collection, courtesy of the Indiana State Museum
