Description

This is a political cartoon printed in the December 1861 issue of Vanity Fair. It shows Judah Benjamin, the Jewish Attorney General of the Confederacy, leading a group of secessionist politicians marching in what the title alludes to as "The Exodus to Nashville." All of the men carry politically charged symbols: papers, scrolls, bags, picket signs, etc. One of the bubbles reads "No more shall the children of Judah sing." The cartoon was intended to promote the association of Jewish people with the Confederacy . Part of the Lincoln Financial Foundation Collection, courtesy of the Indiana State Museum
