Description

This drawing is a political cartoon depicting an unpleasant landscape that showcases the ruin caused by factory pollution. The scene features a factory with excessive smoke billowing out of its chimney stacks, and thick sludge pouring out of a chute that spills into a flowing waterway of muck littered with tires, trash and empty bottles. The horizon is dotted with tree stumps and lone trees whose branches are entirely void of any leaves. In the upper left corner, a large floating portrait of a shocked and concerned President Abraham Lincoln appears in the sky, looking down in horror at the disturbing scene. The artist's signature and year are handwritten in the bottom right corner of the image. The title is handwritten in blue ballpoint pen in the lower margin.
