Description

This is a lithograph featuring New York governor, Horatio Seymour, standing on a podium addressing a crowd of rioting citizens. The citizens are all men and some wave guns in the air, while others take off their hats for the governor. There is a dialogue printed below the image between Seymour and the crowd, in which it becomes evident that he is supported by some of the onlookers, and disliked by some as well. "File in safe" is handwritten in pencil on the reverse side, referring to its previous location in the Lincoln Museum.
