Description

This engraving features a half-length portrait of a beardless Abraham Lincoln done from a photograph taken of him on February 27, 1860, in New York. He is depicted facing partially toward the viewer's right with his head and eyes directed toward the viewer. He is shown in a coat, vest, button-down collared shirt, and bow tie. The cord attached to his eyeglasses lays diagonally across his chest. The tissue guard for the engraving has the words "Abraham Lincoln First stage of a steel engraving" printed in the middle.
