Description

This bronze short bust on a black marble base depicts President Abraham Lincoln from the neck up. He is bearded and directly facing the viewer. On the right shoulder side of the bust is etched the copyright symbol and, "G. Borglum." Lincoln's neck ends in a square shaped copper pedestal, giving the piece a freshly hewn look. The bronze bust sits on top of a square black marble pedestal. On the front of the pedestal is a light copper plaque that reads, "Our Constitution Is The Best Plan/ Ever Made To Assure Freedom And To/ Release The Creative Powers Of Men./ "We, Even We Here, Hold The Power And Bear The Responsibility./ We Shall Nobly Save Or Meanly Lose The Last Best Hope Of Earth." Abraham Lincoln." On the back of the pedestal is a label that reads, "Presented to the Lincoln National Life Foundation, Inc. by Homer Capehart/ Date March 1963."
