Description

Blue silk ribbon features a pin attached to the top with two hanging medallions. The silver pin features an eagle with spread wings grasping leaves with its talons. The dome of the Capital Building in Washington, D. C., can be seen behind the eagle. Hanging from this pin is a rectangular bar with an ornamented frame. Blue print on a white ground appears inside the frame and reads "Member." Hanging from the bar an ornamental medallion features a photograph of Abraham Lincoln. The metal frame surrounding Lincoln is heavily decorated with scroll and floral ornamentation. The back of the ribbon has a sewn tag with print that reads "This Badge Manufactured by The Whitehead & Hoag Co. Makers of Badges, Buttons, Banners, Signs and Advertising Novelties Main Office and Factory.- Newark, N.J.". There is also more information discussing their production unions. The back of the pin features a safety pin mechanism for pinning. The back of the rectangular medallion has raised print that reads "The Whitehead & Hoag Co. Newark, N.J. Pat. Appld For". The last medallion has an emblem or insignia surrounded by raised print. The surrounding print reads "Made by the Whitehead & Hoag Co. Newark, N.J. Makers of Union Made Badges".
