Description

Circular pin features a depiction of a 44 caliber derringer pistol that bisects the pin into an upper section and a lower section. The derringer is depicted in color. The upper and lower sections each have a scene illustrating the assassination of Abraham Lincoln. In the upper section, Lincoln is seen in the theatre box accompanied by two spectators, a male figure, and a female figure, perhaps Mary Todd Lincoln. The scene shows the moment after Lincoln is shot. Lincoln is hunched over and assisted by the male figure and the female figure is standing and peering out onto to the stage. Also, within this upper section, black print appears that reads "Lincoln was shot with this 44 Cal. Derringer". The lower section features John Wilkes Booth leaping onto the stage while actors look on with fear. Behind Booth, light brown print appears within an illustrated ribbon that reads "Sic Semper Tyrranis". This Latin phrase translates into "Thus always to tyrants." Both scenes are illustrated in light brown. The gold back features a safety pin mechanism for pinning and is attached to the button by prongs.
