Description

This bronze figurine of Abraham Lincoln shows a young Lincoln seated on a tree stump. He is clean shaven, wearing a button shirt that is open at the throat and with sleeves rolled up to the elbow, long trousers, and round tipped shoes. His left hand rests on the head of a dog that is seated next to him. In his right hand, Lincoln holds a book that is mostly closed, but slightly parted by one of his fingers. The right hand and book rest on the handle of a single headed axe that extends to the ground. Lincoln's legs are crossed at the ankle with his right leg over his left leg. The back of the trunk shows small branches with several large leaves. The entire statuette rests on a green marble base. On the front of the base is engraved, "Abraham Lincoln The Hoosier Youth." On the back of the base is engraved the name "Geo. Yostel" and to the lower-right corner, "C. SC." This is a statuette done after Paul Manship's heroic size statue which stands in front of the Lincoln National Life Insurance Company Building in Fort Wayne, Indiana.
