Description
This print features a series of buildings surrounding a flag pole that holds an American flag all of which form the home for disabled and veteran soldiers in Washington, D. C. The name of each building is printed in the margin below the image. The far left building is "Dr. King's Residence," the building slightly to the right is the "President's Villa," the "Military Governor's House" stands in the center, with the "Soldiers Home" off to the right. There are people walking around the grounds on paved paths, as well as a man on a horse and small carriage off to the left side of the print. Shrubbery stands in the foreground. The President Lincoln family lived in one of the buildings during the summer months as the area was cooler than that around the Executive Mansion. "Entered according to Act of Congress A.D. 1863 by Chas. Magnus in the Clerks Office of the S. District of New York" is printed just below the image. "Soldier's Home, Washington, D.C." is printed in the bottom margin, with publication information below it. "1863" is written in pencil at the bottom of the paper.
