Description

This colored postcard features the south side of the public square in 1858 in Springfield, Illinois. The caption is printed in red ink in the upper left corner of the image. The postcard reverse is divided with narrative text on the left side. "Lincoln Series No. 11" is printed along the left edge of the reverse. Abraham Lincoln's law office was on the public square for several years before he was elected as president of the United States in 1860.
