Description

This postcard features an illustration of Abraham Lincoln as a young boy in Indiana lying on the floor in front of a fireplace. He is depicted writing numbers on a shovel and on the floor with an open book on the floor beside the shovel. A few other books are scattered on the floor. The illustration is surrounded by a double thin-line black border. Below the border a quotation attributed to Lincoln is printed: "I will study and learn and wait and maybe my chance will come." Beside the quotation the top half of a young boy is depicted from the back wearing a plaid cap and holding books in his left hand. A banner is across his neck which reads "American Youth." The postcard reverse is divided. An advertisement for a shoe repair shop is printed on the left side. Part of the Lincoln Financial Foundation Collection, courtesy of the Indiana State Museum
