Description
This postcard souvenir folder has a strip of coated paper 17-3/4 inches long by 5-3/4 inches wide pasted along the top edge to the inside of the folder. The paper is folded accordion style to the size of a postcard. When unfolded there are five different postcard-sized images on one side and five more on the reverse all related to the reconstructed village of New Salem or Abraham Lincoln. The reconstructed village near Petersburg, Illinois, was known as Old Salem State Park from 1919 until 1932 when the name was changed to New Salem State Park. The images in the folder are captioned as: The Museum at the Old Salem State Park; Interior of the New Museum at Old Salem State Park; The Grave of Ann Rutledge, with Poem by Edgar Lee Masters (Petersburg, Illinois); Lincoln Statue (Springfield, Illinois); Lincoln Monument (Springfield, Illinois); The Rutledge Tavern as Re-built, Old Salem State Park; The Offut Store Where Lincoln Was Employed as a Clerk in 1831; The Onstott Cooper Shop at Old Salem State Park; The Lincoln-Berry Store as Re-built at Old Salem State Park; and Scene on Sangamon River, Old Salem State Park. The folder is hand-colored with an envelope style tab at the top which fits into a slit on back of the folder. The publisher's information and the number 4563 are printed in the lower margin just below the image on the back of the folder. Abraham Lincoln lived in the original village of New Salem from 1831 to 1837. Part of the Lincoln Financial Foundation Collection, courtesy of the Indiana State Museum
