Description

This linen postcard features the bronze tablet mounted on the exterior of the David Wills house in Gettysburg, Pennsylvania. President Abraham Lincoln stayed the night in this house and finished writing the speech that he would give the following day for the dedication of the National Cemetery on November 19, 1863. The text of President Lincoln's speech is inscribed on the bronze tablet. The image of the tablet is printed on a background of blue clouds with American flags and bayonets extending toward both top corners of the tablet. The postcard reverse is divided. Narrative text is printed on the left side. Part of the Lincoln Financial Foundation Collection, courtesy of the Indiana State Museum
