Description
This linen postcard features the Soldier's National Monument located in the Gettysburg National Cemetery at Gettysburg, Pennsylvania. The monument is located near the spot where Lincoln delivered his Gettysburg Address as part of the dedication of the cemetery on November 19, 1863. The monument stands sixty feet high. The base is a massive pedestal with four allegorical figures representing War, History, Peace, and Plenty. A colossal-sized marble statue representing the Genius of Victory is mounted at the top of the monument. A fence is shown surrounding the monument with a background of large trees. A white border surrounds the whole image with the caption printed in the top margin. The number 21 is printed in the lower right corner of the border. The postcard reverse is divided with narrative text print on the left side. The number 4A-H771 is printed along the bottom edge near the middle.
