Description

This colored lithograph features a young adult Abraham Lincoln seated on the ground beneath a tree along the bank of the Sangamon River. He appears to be reading or studying the book held in his hands. A mill house can be seen in the background. Five verses of the poem titled "The Song of the Sangamon" are printed in the margin below the image with the name Carry Douglas Wright printed below them. Item 71.2009.081.2547 is a black and white duplicate image without the poem which is titled "Lincoln Studying on the Banks of the Sangamon."
